Can I volunteer to help at camp while my child with
diabetes is there?
The main goal of camp is to promote independence. Parents with a
medical background can only volunteer at sessions other than the one their child
is attending as a camper. We also have Family Weekends, at these the whole
family can get an idea of what camp is like and meet some of the staff that may
be at your child's summer session.
Who are the volunteers at camp?
Florida Diabetes Camp runs on volunteer power! All sessions are
staffed by Pediatric Endocrinologists, Pediatricians, Nurse Practitioners,
Diabetes Educators, Dietitians, Mental Health Counselors, Psychologists, and a
variety of other health professionals and educators. Our cabin counselors
consist of medical residents, medical students, nursing students and health and
pre-professional students from most of the health programs in the State of
Florida. All volunteers are screened and have their backgrounds
checked as well as have to attend a training session in diabetes
management prior to camp. |
